Not Only Craft Beer Discovering in Kiyosumi Shirakawa!

Popular area not only for café but also for taste of craft beer!
Since first original store was opened after the third wave of
coffee coming from Seattle "Blue Bottle Coffee",
Kiyosumi Shirakawa area became known as a stylish cafe city
as well as the city of art.
This place is well known for its mainly high class cafe and stores,
but in fact, there are also many beer bars and breweries and
therefore for those who enjoy alcohol beverages this area
is highly recommended.
During today`s walk we will introduce you
some great beer spots!

1. How about to try some rare craft beer in a stylish beer bar
which looks like a warehouse?!
When you reach to Kiyosumi Shirakawa station, please,
take B2 exit. If you turn to the left on crossing and keep
walking for about 3 minutes, you will reach to a building
which looks like a warehouse.
Originally it was used as a book binding place but
later it was renovated and now it is known as
"Dragonfly Craft Beer Hall". This place has a wide selection
of various craft beer!
The exterior of the shop looks just like a garage!
If you visit with your doggy, you can enjoy staying together
at the terrace.

When you enter the shop, you will see a counter
with nine different kinds of beer in front of you.
The staff`s recommendation is "Single Take Session Ale"
(1,000 yen・half size 700 yen・take out 900 yen tax included).
If you are little bit familiar with the beer,
you can choose and fill up your favorite one by yourself!
Left/ Half size beer (700 yen). In a sunny day,
you can enjoy your beer at the terrace.
Right/ The interior with high ceilings gives the store
an open feeling!

Golden well chilled beer tastes the best! Even though
the taste of hops is quite strong, the taste of beer is great!

After drinking a delicious craft beer and leaving the place
in a good spirit, walk for a little bit and just
a few buildings next to Dragonfly Craft Beer Hall,
grocery store with nice green tiles exterior can be found.

2. How about getting some colorful souvenirs from
displayed lovely miscellaneous goods at "POTPURRI" store?
The name of the store "POTPURRI" comes from Swedish
language and its meaning is "Mixed".
The original & well selected objects displayed in the store
such as handkerchiefs or other miscellaneous goods
including dishes will remind you of Scandinavia.
In modern living concept "wear, live and eat", the store
is filled with lots of culture and craftsmanship skills
art pieces and works.
Upper Left/ "HAPPY BIRTHDAY " and other cards.
Adding your small gift with such a card is definitely
a good choice!
Upper Right/ A lots of carefully selected dishes and vases.
Great option as a souvenir or as a present.
Lower Left/ Tooth brush stand in a shape of house. What
a cute original idea!
Lower Right/ The appearance of the store looks like
an abroad atelier. In such a spacious store
it is fun and easy to shop!
Especially popular items in this shop is a series of porcelain
called Vogue which means in Swedish "wave".
Soft curves and colorful simple form
of the dishes looks lovely.

This carefully made cups can be used for any occasion.
When you consider that these lovely colorful objects were
made by craftsmen, you might feel even bigger excitement
about them.
These sets of colorful dishes will sure bring to the table
bright atmosphere!

After leaving the souvenir shop POTPURRI and passing
around Fukagawa Edo Museum, on the other side of the
street can be found Koto wards public toilet.
It`s cool ancient appearance might somehow
remind you Edo period public bath.
Men and women are mixed together,
therefore some women might feel a bit
uncomfortable here.
Public toilets located on the opposite side of
Fukagawa Edo Museum.
Do not mistake this public toilets with
some other kind of shop!

3. Sitting on the terrace along Sumida river
feels awesome! What do you think about
watching the Sky Tree while enjoying
some craft beer?
After passing through Cheongju Gardens, getting
closer to Sumida river, you can find a place called
"PITMANS" restaurant.
This place is completely barbeque type restaurant,
however, inside the restaurant is August beer`s
first brewery called "Kiyosubashi Brewery".
At Kiyosumi Shirakawa the number of places where
they serve craft beer is rapidly growing!

Two types of original beer "Kiyosumi Amber" and
"Nakasu Golden" are served only at this restaurant.
Terrace seats facing Sumida river are open from
morning until the evening.
Especially during these summer days
you can enjoy warm weather from outside seats.

How about to try latest original beer "Haru Urara" which
means "Beautiful Spring" (for M size 972 yen)!
This beer has a slight flavor of camomile.

In case of good weather, definitely enjoy drinking beer
at the terrace.
At the back, you can see shape of the Sky Tree!
In the evening the Kiyosu Bridge is lit up and creates
a magical scene. Therefore if you have a chance,
we recommend you to visit this place
at least once also in the evening.

When you walk along the Sumida river, you can see
Sky Tree approximately in the middle of Kiyosu bridge!
The reflection of the Sky Tree is glittering at Sumida
river.
 
After visiting "PITMANS" restaurant, continue your walk to
Monzen Nakacho area, where you can discover
Hojoin Temple Fukugawa Enmado!
Here is located the largest statue of Yamaraja
(who is the king of the world of the dead) in Japan.
The view is quite impressive!
You can make a wish and pray for 19th different areas
such as "home safety", "traffic safety", "couple happiness",
"success" and others.

4. Short snack break at gelato store where
you can taste famous Okinawa sherbet!
If you continue walking from Hojoin Temple Fukugawa Enmado
towards Monzen Nakacho area for about 6 minutes,
you will arrive to gelato shop!
In 2009 was open in Miyakojima "Ricco Gelato" store,
which became popular for using local mango
and passion fruits, Okinawan biscuit (which are similar
to shortbread), Awamori (which is an alcoholic beverage
made from rice made by distillation) and other Miyajima`s
famous items!

Upper Left/ 12 kinds of gelato changing every day
Upper Right/ Miyakojima product, made from organic sugar cane
"Kokutomitsu" (1,280 yen tax included). It is recommended
to put some on your gelato!
Lower Left/Between popular take away sherbet flavors are
"Sweet Potato" (450 yen tax included) or "Awamori Raisins"
(450 yen tax included) and many others.
Lower Right/ For those who wish to eat in, there is a chair
located in front of the store.

Recommendation of the store are "Amaou Mille-feuille" and
"Double Tankan Sorbet" (480 yen tax included)

The taste of the sherbet is refreshing but at the same time
rich in flavor and very delicious!
