For example 6/16 is "Wagashi (Japanese sweets) Day",
6/21 is "Snack Day" and 6/28 is "Parfait Day".
Today`s walking route will take us to some awesome places
with delicious sweets! Let`s start walking and snacking!
Ikebukuro station (East entrance)→

At the east entrance of "Ikebukuro station",
you will notice a stone statue of an owl. This is a famous
meeting spot in Ikebukuro, much like Hachiko statue

1. The forever bustling Minami Ikebukuro Park・
When you exit "Ikebukuro station", you will be greeted
to the sight of a busy avenue. If you turn left, you can go
to the aquarium, the planetarium and towards the direction
of "Sunshine city" with a huge shopping mall.
If you turn right, you will be heading towards "Junkudo",
a mega book store.
If you walk straight, you will pass "Don Quijote" and
after taking a few narrow streets away from the main avenue,
our destination "Minami-Ikebukuro Park" will be visible
Especially during events, you can see here many
families purchasing food at Marche and enjoying
their meal sitting on the soft grass and getting some
Minami-Ikebukuro Park has recently become quite hot spot.
Renewed in 2016, it has since been advertised as
one of Ikebukuro`s new hang out spots along
with the Green Boulevard that runs along it.
There are also exciting events held by Nest Marche

you can see lots of people coming for Marche event.
Some couples brings even their own picnic items.

On the day of this walk, there was a special event being held-
"Ikebukuro Living Loop" - organized by Nest Marche.
As a result, it was quite crowded from the morning, with people
walking around the streets and enjoying the Ikebukuro "Loop".
2. Coffee Specialist: Ootoru Cafe
The first place of this walk was Ootoru Cafe,
where you can try authentic roasted and freshly
ground coffee. "Ootoru", in Ehime dialect, means
"fits well". The aim of the coffee shop is to find a coffee
that "fits well" with your taste.
You can recognize the shop because of its cute
handwritten blackboard and abundance of coffee equipment.

and roasts the coffee beans. A coffee specialist offering
delectable hand roasted coffee, Mr. Urakawa`s pop up
coffee shop has been gaining popularity through
word of mouth and has even got itself a fan base.

gently on homemade coffee syrup and ice.
Watching the drink gurgle and bubble was fun!
Right/ It is recommended to drink this straight,
without a straw. The coffee powder sprinkled
on top gives it a divine aroma.
3. Quirky and Cool: Puraban Accessories by
Nakata Masami (Ohineri No.2)
Next interesting booth was quirky and cool accessory
design by Nakata Masami. These accessories are
filled with a lots of individuality and personality.
But the best part is the DIY booth where you can
pick and choose parts to create your own brooches,
earrings and accessories on the spot!
Many interesting rings with messages such as
"Yaseru" (Lose Weight) (756 yen including tax)
and "Okashi" (Sweet) (756 yen including tax)!
This "Message Ring" series is perfect to express
your feelings at work or private!
For example, if you declare that you are going
on a diet with your "Lose Weight" ring,
maybe people areound you will refrain from giving you
On the other hand, you "Okashi" ring could work
as your constant silent appeal for yummy sweets.
These accessories, called puraban as they are made
from plastic "ban" (sheet in Japanese), are designed
by Nakata Masami.
The method is cutting a picture on a plastic sheet
and baking it- which sounds simple - but the high
quality and crazy motifs are what set these accessories
apart. There are many motifs of food and animals.
Even other booths in Marche had designs and colors
that were interesting and eye-catching.

After having fun at "Minami-Ikebukuro Park",
"Green Boulevard" and Marche, it`s time to head off to
Long-established pastry shop "Takase" founded in 1999.
On the first floor you can choose from a variety of pastary
and in second floor you can find a coffee shop.
The parfait display gives the place a real retro feel.
4. Time to go to "Cafe Comme Ca Seibu Ikebukuro Store"
to eat limited edition Fruit Parfait!
Cafe Comme Ca is famous for using only premium
domestic fruits in its fruit parfaits. Not only that,
Cafe Comme Ca has a limited-edition fruit parfait
available only in Seibu Ikebukuro store!
Let`s go to check it out!
Seibu Ikebukuro has many interior and lifestyle
goods stores. Cafe Comme Ca is on a calm floor and
itself has a calm and relaxed atmosphere,
making it easy for even a single person to enter.
"Peach and Fig Parfait" (1,815 yen tax included) as
well as "Melon and Mango Parfait" (1,815 yen tax
included) seems quite tempting.

With its calm atmosphere, Comme Ca is perfect
for both enjoying a parfait alone as well as going out
with friends or a date. Apparently, the cafe is popular
with office ladies as a little reward for surviving
the rough week or just a sweet treat on the way home.
Since its close to the station, it`s an easy spot to drop

between seats so you can feel relaxed and comfortable.

Upon arriving at the front entrance of "WACCA",
you can found a cute postbox with a yellow owl motif
at a nearby post office!
Displayed at the back is 70th anniversary
commemorative character "Toshima Nanamaru".

5. Play with your favorite cat♪ Cokkun Cafe
Cokkun Cafe can be found inside the WACCA facility.
Cats, cats and more cats
Adults and children can touch and hold cats freely.
Some children coming here touch a cat
for the first time!
The cats of "Cokkun Cafe" are very friendly. Besides,
the clerks pick up and scatter the cats every so often
so that everyone can hold and play with the cats equally.
You can play with the cats, using the free toys
available at the shop. You can also spend your time
leisurely reading manga books lying around the shop
or even studying! The writer was lucky enough to see
the cats` snack time and the store clerk explained
that the cats usually have star shaped snacks.
However, these star shaped snacks were gobbled up
by the cats in a matter of seconds and the writer was
not able to get a peek at them!

After the cat`s snack time, it was time for your
snack time as well! Luckily, just outside the cat cafe
was a Takiyaki (fish shaped waffles with a sweet center)
shop "Fukui". Godsend!
Left/This sweet shop used to be originally a ramen
Right/ Custard Fish (160 yen tax included). Just
a perfect size for a quick snack at the station.
All in all, the Ikebukuro is a surprisingly pleasant place.
The real thrill of a walk is the excitement of a different scenes
or atmosphere at every corner, and that`s what Ikebukuro
is all about. Also recommended for your next walk around
Ikebukuro is the area around the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre
and vintage cinema hall "Cinema Rosa".
